Gold Limited Edition Stormtrooper- umm.. Nope ..

Recently A collector sent over these images asking if they are authentic. A Rare Gold Limited Edition Stormtrooper.  Sorry  collectors this is about as fake a custom as you can get.  It is obviously  a gold painted stormtrooper on a reproduction cardback with a  repro bubble.  Note the awful footer as well. It is obvious from the font it is a reproduction card back. This figure was never released in the 1977-1984 era.   It likely originated in Europe where  repro  bubbles and card backs are prevalent .

If you like customs  it is another one to add to your collection, but buyer beware,  it has little value and is not a legitimate Kenner release.

Vintage Kenner Star Wars Stormtrooper COO marks

I Thought I would lay out all the COO marks available on Stormtroopers. There are quite a few out there.  Most Common are the 3 line Hong Kong as well as the 2 line Hong Kong, The Raised bar China is from ROTJ era it is legit. I still see people saying this is a fake, not true.

Several years age there were some recast  bootlegs of the 2 line COO Stormtrooper being sold on Ebay, but these were super white, and had some distinct molding distinctions.  I have seen none in the past few years out on the market.

Stormy’s have distinct molding sculpt  differences , take a look at the heads and the back panels for starters.

some heads variation examples:

Stormy’s were molded i a variety of plastics form very transparent soft and rubbery white to a very dense white.

Kenner Obi Wan Kenobi COO figure variations

When you dig a little deeper into this old Jedi, theres a lot of difference between the COO variations.

There are several grey colors to the hair along with the white and distinct mold variations to his head. There are long and short fingers on the hilt of the saber hand. There are several saber and cape variations, as well as two distinct colors to both the brown  plastic of his body, as well as his face.  Some vars. are  much rarer than others

Galaxy Empire Star Wars POTF knockoff Bootlegs

If you were lucky enough to hit  discount dollar stores  in the 90’s , you know the one’s, with lots of cheap China plastic lining the isles- You may have found these.. One of the few Bootlegs Lucasfilm did not catch and got into the US market.

Galaxy Empire toys were knock offs of the POTF sculpt of  figures but about  6″ tall. The packages are dated 1997. The cardbacks are very flimsy

The entire release included 7 total figures, with some paint ops in the series.

heres the list.  of what to look for.

Luke, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Chewbacca as Snoova, Darth Vader, and a Stormtrooper.

Vintage Kenner Droid Factory playset- base color variations

The Droid Factory Playset came out in 1978 in a Star Wars box. It was also released later in a ESB box. The ESB box version is much harder to find.

DSC07718

For the most part all things are similar, although there  a distinct variation in the base color can be found.

From researh it appears the Dark Brown base came to late in the ESB box, making the brown base much harder to find. The lighter color base has been found in both SW and ESB boxes.

Of course the coolest part of the Droid factory set is the 3 lever R2-D2. with its funky 3rd plug in leg.

Collecting vintage 1977 Marvel Star Wars Comics variations of #1

Not all comics are the same. If you are new to collecting Star Wars memorabilia whether it may be action figures, posters or comics, even though the item may look the same there may be some distincDSC01528t differences.  This is the case for vintage Marvel Comics- even thought the Cover may look  the same, there  are differences. here are some examples of Marvel #1 form my collection.

Top left: the rare 35c in the top left,

Middle:  The first edition square- 30c, the more common first edition.

Top right : the third release is the first reprint with a 30c square.

The bottom issues were released by Whitman in comic packs, the diamond reprint – baggie packs.  These are worth less than the original square versions,

DSC02728

One of the figures getting an expanded section in my update to my Guide  “Vintage Kenner Star Wars action figure variations of North America”  is Ree Yees.

Not a particularly rare figure, particularly the Taiwan COO, but the boots quite a rainbow. for tan to dark olive. Some of the colors are like due to fading over time and conditions.   Other vars highlighted is the neck color and the two body colors found on him..

The new update comes out early December, God willing and the creeks don’t rise.

Star Wars first time for purchase on Video Disc CED Format

Heres is a little trivia. !

DSC01157

The first time Star Wars was available for Purchases was 1982. This was for all three of the  media sources of the Time VHS- BETAMAX and VIDEO DISC.  It was not cheap a copy would set you back near $100 bucks.

For those not old enough to remember you could Rent a VHS or laser disc player and a movie  and watch it at home, ahh those college parties. but I digress..

Here is the CED Viedo Disc of Star Wars from 1982.  There are several Variations of the Disc. All contain the original Theatrical release from 1977 . Got to  say great graphics and the classic Logo !

Reportedly Disney is going to bring back the original version -. I don’t mind the Special Edition version, it does help with continuity of the prequels, but hey.. don’t want to start a fight.
